The 3 Things Physicians Should Do When An Offer Is Extended

The goal of every interview is to receive an offer. Congratulations you met your goal. Time is of the essence.

Step One
Make a decision. Take action. Say yes. Say no. Decide the terms under which you will say yes.  There are “wants” and “needs”. You don’t want to confuse the two. Be realistic because no position is perfect.

Step Two
Be sure you understand the employment agreement or contract you are signing. Most likely the other physicians and providers have signed this agreement. You do not want to re-write the agreement. Remember needs and wants.  If you are having an attorney review the agreement stay in control. It is your offer. No two attorneys agree on legal language. Seek legal advice to understand the document and not re-write it. Let the attorney who wrote it change it if necessary. Only ask for what you need.

Step Three
Communicate. Don’t drag your feet, or ghost. Let them know where you are in the process and discuss a mutual timeline for your decision.
